A Story Every Clinician Can Relate To
Dr Peter Terzi was a dual-qualified registered nurse and dentist who built his career across intensive care units in major Australian hospitals, private practice, and international clinical settings. He served with the Royal Australian Navy and pursued advanced clinical training in cardiothoracic and critical care medicine, the kind of career that takes decades of dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to build.
Then, in 2022, everything unravelled.
His professional registration became subject to regulatory review by AHPRA. What followed was a cascade of events that no practitioner ever expects: suspension from practice, a public statement issued against him by the CEO of AHPRA under new laws, online harassment and extortion by stalkers, and ultimately a prison sentence for a factually incorrect crime. His clinic was destroyed. Hundreds of patients were left without treatment. His reputation, and his life's work, lay in ruins.
Through formal tribunal processes, Dr Terzi successfully appealed and reinstated his professional standing. But throughout the entire ordeal, the investigation, the suspension, the public scrutiny, the legal battles, one thing was glaringly absent: adequate clinical support from the regulator. The very system meant to protect practitioners and the public offered no meaningful guidance, no structure, no safety net for a clinician in crisis.
Dr Terzi believes no healthcare professional should have to endure these trials alone. That conviction, forged in the most difficult period of his life, is why Health Practitioners Help exists. To stand beside practitioners when the system leaves them isolated. To provide the independent, informed support that was so desperately missing during his own journey.
